Megans Law & A Mug Rug Swap

First Quilt Finish of the Year!

What can I say about this quilt... this quilt was my Megan's Law Quilt. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. I broke needles, my thread kept snapping, my backing fabric was short by 1/2 an inch, ext., ext.. It took me 11 months to finish this quilt, because I would get so frustrated from everything that went wrong. I felt like every time I would start working on it I would run into a new issue. So today when I put the last stitch on the binding I just about did a happy dance!

Over all I am very happy with the way it came out. Yes, there are a few flaws (Megan's flaws) but I think they give the quilt more character. Over the 11 months I that i work on this quilt I grew quite attached to it and I Hope the woman I made this for will love it as much as I do.

Santa Sack Swap

This year I had so much fun with this swap. It started back in July and every moth my partner and I had to send each other gifts and save them till this month to open. It was very hard to not peak!

Here is a pic of everything I got in my sack! Vickie was very generous.

I absolutely love this sewing kit!
Beautiful! Thank you so much for everything you sent me, Vickie!

Finishes

This is a rag quilt I mad for my Husband for Christmas. Each block has original drawings by our children.

I made this Advent Calender from an idea I saw on Pintrest (I couldn't find the post to share with you) my kids had so much fun putting the count down numbers up everyday!

Family

Here are a few of the Christmas pictures my family took for our holiday cards this year.  I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and I wish you all a Happy new year!

Things I've Finished

Lucias Quilt

It's been a few months since my last blog and I have had a few finishes. I want to start with a quilt I did for my friends daughter, Lucia. It is the blue & pink half square diamond quilt. With this quilt instead of using batting I used a fleece backing, also instead of quilting it I tied it. I did close to three hundred ties. It was worth the time I put into it when I saw the Lucia's face, when she saw it.

Tie Dye

Last month, for Dragon Day at the kids school, was Hippie Day. So my friend Shelley and myself made tie dye shirts for the kids. I really like how they came out.

Wall Hanging

I made a Halloween wall hanging for my house last week. I made the backing big enough to make a self binding quilt. Everything you see around the panel is the backing folded over to the front.

The kids really enjoy looking at it and coming up with stories about it.

Trinitie

And last but not least is a picture of my daughter sleeping with one of her quilts. It makes me happy to see my children using and enjoying the quilts I make, with love, for them.

Till next time, have fun sewing!

Gifts and A Quilt Top

Happy Birthday to Me

My dear friend Shelley gave me this beautiful hand mad box for my birthday. She aslo gave me two set's of FQ bundles and some lables to personalize my projects. She is such a talented crafter! Thank you dear friend for this wonderful gift!

Santa Sack Swap

This year I am participating in a six month long swap ( Santa Sack Swap ) and I was partnered with Vicki over at A Creative Notion . This is the first package I was sent and I can't even open it! I will have to be tempted wait untill December to open these gifts. It is going to be very hard not to sneak a peak at the packages I will be getting.

Finished Quilt Top

This is what i have been working on this summer. I realy like how it turned out! All i need to do is "stich in the ditch" quilting and the binding, I should be done soon.

New Storage Space

I used to store this stuff in totes and stack it in a corner on my sewing table. My space was getting so cramped  and I was having a hard time keeping my table clean. Also, everytime I went looking for some fabric I would find myself digging to the bottom of the totes and making a mess of my fabric. So I decided to move my things. This pantry/closet was being used more as a catch all space so I cleaned it out and made it my art storage room. I'm so happy to have more space at my sewing table!

Summer Vacation

Next week my kids will be going away for a month for summer vacation. My daughter is going with my parents to washington and my son is going with my in-laws in L.A.. It will be a long several weeks without them here to keep me company.  They were both worrying about being away, so i decided to make them snuggly blankets to keep them cozy & comfortable.  I hope they will also feel like they have a bit of home with them while they are away from home.

What Would You Do?

So, I found this really cool fabric at the flea market this weekend & I really love it. My only problem is I don't know what to do with it. I think it could look good as a rag quilt, but the thought of choping it up is killing me. So, then I thought maybe I'll use it as backing, but again I think it has more potential than to just bee used as backing.

So, I ask, how would you use it?

And the winner is.....

This year, for my childrens school fundraising auction, I made a quilt out of the schol shirts. When it came time to try and win, I put 15 tickets in the drawing basket for my chance to win. I was thrilled when I herd my name being called as the winner! How lucky am I?!

Hexi Part 2

After many months I have finally finished the second hexi tag quilt. If you remember I bought several yards of fabric on black friday and I made my daughter her quilt right away. I ment to do my son's as soon as I had finished my daughters but then I got distracted by Christmas and I never got around to it. So here we are, almost 4 months later and I just finished getting out done. Well, at least it's done... and my son loves it!

Quilting Frame

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it! I got a quilt frame!!! I have been shopping around for one for a few months now & I found a woman who was selling hers on craigslist, so I jumped on the opportunity. I did buy it used but it is in "like new" condition. I got it put together yesterday and set it up to start quilting today. I can't wait to get started! So here I go, my first hand quilted quilt. Wish me luck!

Sunrise

This is the mini quilt I made for my "New Beginnings" swap partner. When I started the design, I really wanted to represent what I imagined when I thought of new beginings. The first thing I thought of was sunrises. With every sunrise comes new beginnings. So I named my mini, Sunrise. I'm so excited to have been part of this swap and i can't wait to find out if my partner likes it. I hope that whenever she looks at it her day is filled with a little sunshine.

Christmas Quilt's

Woop, Woop! I did it! the Quilt's are done in time for Christmas! I thought this day would never come. I finished the first quilt in August and now it's December and I just compleated the last one. I am so very proud of myself, there were a few times when i thought to myself "I dont know if I will get these done...". I am so glad that i pushed myself, I sometimes work late into the night- 1, 2 and sometimes 3 in the morning i would be quilting. it was hard work but so worth my time. I can't wait to see the look on the kids faces when they see thier favorit character or colors on their quilts.

These are some burp rags I made to go along with the Winnie the Pooh quilt I made a few months/weeks ago. I dont remember exactly how long ago I made it but, I just made these and I think the set in going to look very nice together.

Dun-dun-dun-dun (in a sing-song voice)! Here it is! This is the back of my son's quilt, it is the part of the quilt that took me the longest to make. Laying it out took me about 5 hours! Once it was layed out I had to number each row so that I made sure to sew them in the right order. OMG! It was a lot of work and somewhere along the way a few of the rows moved out of order and I would have to do another quick lay out of a few rows. But look at it now! Doesnt it look so nice!? Well, I think it looks nice...

I still have to make the front part (so I guess I'm not realy done) but that will only take a few hours because I am just going to border a pannel. Then it's off to quilting and binding, so another day of work and it will be ready. I will post pics once it is fully and compleatly done.

Thanks for coming along on this adventure with me!

Till nest time, have fun sewing!
